BIOGRAPHY
Yuqi (Korean: 송우기), born September 23, 1999, is a Chinese singer-songwriter, dancer, producer and model. Her real name is Song Yuqi. She grew up in Beijing, China, where she lived with her parents as an only child. She went to Beijing 101 Middle School. Yuqi was interested in music from an early age. Her strong interest in music may come from her mother listening to a lot of music of many genres while she was pregnant with Yuqi.
She learned Chinese dance, Daizu dance, at a young age. During her school years, she taught herself the choreographies of Kpop songs. At home, she often imagined herself performing at concerts. Back then, she was a big fan of HyunA and the “Girl Crush” choreography style, which is sexy, cool and badass instead of cute.
Yuqi attended the CUBE audition in Beijing in 2015 and was later contacted for a second casting. The path to becoming an idol was not easy for her as her parents were strictly against it. She tried to convince her parents every day. They finally agreed because they felt Yuqi was old enough to make her own decisions.
After passing her final casting in South Korea, Yuqi soon began her life as a trainee. In June 2017, she appeared in a promotional video for Rising Star Cosmetics. On February 27, 2018, she appeared in a video on the YouTube channel Dingo Story, where she sang on the street in front of passers-by as a CUBE trainee. On May 2, 2018, she debuted with the girl group (G)I-DLE.
(G)I-DLE
(G)I-dle, is a South Korean girl group from Cube Entertainment. She has conquered the K-pop scene with her unique style and creative sound. The group was officially introduced on May 2, 2018 with the debut EP "I Am" and consisted of six talented members: Soyeon, Miyeon, Minnie, Soojin, Yuqi and Shuhua. Soojin left the group in 2021. They have gained worldwide recognition and popularity with hits such as "LATATA", "HANN (Alone)", "Oh my god" and "DUMDi DUMDi".
Since they have enjoyed some success since their debut, we have summarized the most important ones for you here:
- Due to (G)I-DLE's success of the songs "Latata" and "Hann (Alone)", Cube Entertainment's sales increased by 58% percent in 2018.
- In 2019 they took part in the “Queendom” competition, where they competed against five other girl groups. They took third place.
- In 2020 they celebrated their first international collaboration with the Belgian DJ duo “Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike”.
- In 2021 they received the “Best Performance Award” at the Seoul Music Awards.
- With the release of their album “I NEVER DIE” they stayed at number two on the Korean charts for 52 weeks and went platinum.
- In 2022 they released the album “2” and achieved double platinum. The album sold over 1,500,000 copies.

CAREER
After two successful years within the girl group (G)I-DLE, Yuqi mainly focused on performing solo in China in 2021. In August she took part in the Chinese survival show "Stage Boom". There she competed against 10 other female idols in several rounds and demonstrated her skills as a singer. She was then eliminated in the semifinals. On October 27, 2021, she sang the theme song "Salute to the Heroes" of the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics and Paralympic Games together with others. During the year, Yuqi also appeared in several Chinese variety shows, including "Keep Running", "Let's Fall In Love 3", "2060" and "Shine! Super Brothers".
After a year, Yuqi returned to South Korea to prepare for (G)I-dle's comeback. In October, (G)I-DLE released their fifth EP "I Love", on which Yuqi contributed to the songs "Reset" and "Dark (X-File)". They went three times platinum for the EP.
In February 2023, Yuqi and her group member Miyeon released the song "Sweet Dream" as part of the soundtrack for the Netflix romantic comedy series "Love to Hate You". In March, she was confirmed to appear on season 11 of "Keep Running," a reality variety show that pits seven celebrities against each other. As the name suggests, speed is very important in the show. In June, she made her acting debut in the Netflix original series “Celebrity,” as Chinese influencer “Zhang Wei.” In December, Yuqi worked with British-Norwegian producer Alan Walker and Jvke on the single "Fire!" from Walker's fourth studio album "Walkerworld".
On March 22, 2024, it was announced that Yuqi would make her Korean solo debut with the album "Yuq1" in April. The album reached number 2 on the Korean charts and sold almost 500,000 copies.
