The five members of AB6IX and their fans achieve absolute perfection when they are together. At least that's the meaning behind the boy band's name: “AB6IX” is short for “Absolute Six”.

K-pop fans saw four of the members in public for the first time in 2017. The future AB6IX members fought for victory in the survival show “Produce 101 Season 2”.
Produce 101 Season 2
A year after 101 female trainees fought for a place in the project girl group I.O.I in the first season, this time 101 male trainees competed against each other for the same goal.
The agency “Brand New Music” sent Lim Youngmin, Park Woojin, Kim Donghyun and Lee Daehwi into the running. That alone caused a surprise because Brand New Music was known as a hip-hop label and had not produced any idols up to that point.
Any doubts were immediately dispelled because the four trainees impressed with their audition: a performance of their own song “Hollywood”. The song was written and composed by Daehwi. Park Woojin was responsible for the choreography. Her talent was greatly appreciated not only by the jury and trainees, but also by the fans.
Thanks to their votes, both Daehwi (3rd place) and Woojin (6th place) were among the eleven winners of the show, who debuted in August 2017 as a boy band called “Wanne One”. Youngmin (15th place) didn't make it into the group, but at least he made it to the final! Donghyun (28th place) was kicked out just one episode before.
Wanna One
The eleven winners of the survival show were active together for a year and a half. From their debut at the beginning of August 2017 with “Energetic” to their last concert at the end of January 2019.
In a short time, the boy band released 5 albums and caused enormous hype. All albums topped the album charts and most of the singles also made it to the top of the charts! In addition, Wanna One won 12 awards in various award ceremonies such as the “Mnet Asian Music Awards” and the “Seoul Music Awards”! Television shows in which the successful group appeared regularly saw huge increases in viewer ratings.
The boy band was undoubtedly one of the most successful idol groups in 2017 and 2018. But even though fans knew from the start that Wanna One was “just” a project group that would break up after less than two years, there was great sadness when the moment actually came. The members' eyes didn't stay dry at their last concert either.
They returned to their respective agencies in late January. Jinyoung debuted in the five-member boy band “CIX”, Lai Kuanlin is active as an actor in China and Minhyun returned to his group NU’EST. The other six - Yoon Jisung, Ha Sungwoon, Ong Seongwu, Kim Jaehwan, Kang Daniel & Park Jihoon - debuted solo.
It almost seemed like a dream that 10 of them, despite their own careers, gathered again in December 2021 and performed their past hits at the MAMA Awards. Unfortunately, Lai Kuanlin couldn't be there.
While Daehwi and Woojin were active in Wanna One, Youngmin and Donghyun debuted as a duo called “MXM” in 2017.
MXM
The name has two meanings. The first “Mix and Match” is intended to express how well the two harmonize as a group. The other “More and More” symbolizes the desire to continue to grow and rise in the music industry.
The first album “Unmix” was released on September 6th. This was followed by the second album “Match Up” in March 2018 and the third album “More Than Ever” in August 2018. Even Daehwi was involved in the first and third albums, as he wrote “Good Days” from “Unmix” and two of the 14 songs from “More Than Ever”: Hoping That You’d Love Me” & “Dawn”. The third album was also the last, in 2019 the two made their debut together with Daehwi, Woojin and a fifth member as AB6IX.
In 2018, MXM founded the project group YDPP (Youth, Dream, Passion, Purity) together with Jeong Sewoon and Lee Gwanghyun from Starship Entertainment, who also appeared in Produce 101 Season 2. YDPP released the digital single “Love It Live It” on April 5, 2018.
After Wanna One disbanded in January 2019, Daehwi and Woojin returned to their agency Brand New Music and prepared for a boy band debut together with Youngmin and Donghyun. The first episode of a reality show called “BrandNewBoys” was broadcast in April, which accompanies the boys on their way to their debut.
That same month, “Jeon Woong” was introduced as the boy band’s fifth member!
Jeon Woong was a trainee at various agencies such as JYP, YG and Woollim Entertainment for six years before finally landing at Brand New Music. He was seen in the music video “As Long As You’re Not Crazy” by Infinite H and the survival show “Stray Kids,” among others. When the show was filmed, Woong was just a trainee under YG and competed as part of Team against the future members of Stray Kids. During his time in Brand New Music, he worked, among other things, as a backup dancer for MXM.
AB6IX
On April 26, 2019, AB6IX released a performance video for the song Hollywood, which four of the five members previously performed on Produce 101 in 2017, ahead of their official debut. In the music video, all five members perform the song!
And then the time had finally come: On May 22nd, AB6IX debuted with their first album “B:Complete” including the title song “Breathe”. It reached number 2 on the Gaon Album Charts!
It wasn't too much of a surprise that Daehwi contributed to the lyrics and music of almost all of the seven tracks, after all, he had proven his talent several times before. Not just by writing songs for his colleagues from MXM. He has established himself to such an extent that he even wrote a song for IZ*ONE and later for the solo albums of his former Wanna One members - Yoon Jisung & Park Jihoon.
In fact, Youngmin and Woojin were also heavily involved in the lyrics in B:Complete. AB6IX is a group full of all-rounders!
The debut album was followed by the first fan meeting in July and in September the boy group worked with the American singer “Lizzo” on a remix of her song “Truth Hurts”. In October it was time for a new album: “ 6ixense ” and the music video for the title song “Blind for Love” were released at the beginning of the month.
AB6IX's first concert under the same title - “6ixense” - took place on November 9th.
The year 2020 began for AB6IX with the digital album “5nally”, which was released in February.
It differs from the previous albums because all five tracks are solo songs: Each member sang their own song and even released their own music video!
In February and March, due to the global Corona pandemic, the European and U.S. Concerts that were supposed to take place as part of the “6ixense” tour were canceled. This might have been the first chance for fans to see the solo songs live.
But they could look forward to a new album that was supposed to be released on June 8th. However, on June 4th it was announced that the album had been postponed until the end of the month. Brand New Music explained that Youngmin was caught drunk driving by police on May 31 and had to surrender his driver's license. As a result, all of his activities were suspended. Then on June 8th, the agency announced that Youngmin was leaving the group.
The album “Vivid” was released on June 29th. To fans' surprise, Youngmin can still be seen in the music video for the title song "The Answer"! However, his name does not appear in the album's credits because all of his vocal parts were removed.
Youngmin can still be seen in the physical album, although much less than the other members. It almost seems like a small farewell gesture for the fans.
In November, AB6IX officially released the four-piece's first album: “Salute”.

In 2020, the boy band presented three albums and made their debut in Japan.
Before anything else, AB6IX released an official remix of “Adrenaline” (Orig.: Why Don’t We) on January 7th. The original singers also commented on the remix on Twitter. In the same month, a repackage of Salute was released with the title “Salute: A New Hope” and the title song “Stay Young”. Fans of the boy band didn't have to wait long, because AB6IX presented another album called “Mo’ Complete: Have a Dream” in April. As if that wasn't enough, a single called “Gemini” followed in May for the music app “Universe”.
Fans were also well looked after in the second half of the year, as the boy group released their eighth album “ Mo' Complete ” at the end of September.
On November 24th, two and a half years after their debut, AB6IX debuted in Japan. The first Japanese album is called “Absolute 6ix”. It contains 5 Japanese versions of the band's Korean songs, such as their debut song "Breathe".
The guys didn't take a break during the New Year, as the group made a comeback on January 17th with the special album " Complete with You ". It contains 5 songs, a solo from each member and the joint title track "1,2,3". With the title "Complete With You", AB6IX wants to say that they are only truly complete with their fans, to whom the album is dedicated.
