These K-Pop festivals take place in Europe, among other places!
K-Pop Blog > Overview > Concerts
For many K-Pop fans, concerts are a special highlight, for which some of them even travel to other countries! Have you ever been to a K-Pop concert or festival? Festivals are an even greater experience than solo concerts by individual groups, especially for fans who like many different groups. What could be better than seeing several Korean stars in one evening?
However, it is not so easy for international fans to attend a K-pop festival. K-pop artists are now giving more and more concerts in Europe, but festivals outside Asia are still rare. Today we present you the biggest of them, which take place once or several times a year:
KCON
KCON is a Korea convention that was held for the first time in California on October 13, 2012. So it already has a 10-year history! KCON was created to give American fans a chance to connect with each other and meet Korean stars. In the very beginning, there were always five to six different K-pop stars visiting, but now it's more like seven to eight.
In 2014 and 2015, KCON expanded to two consecutive days, and it continued to grow in the following years. It is now held several times a year in several different countries. The United States participates every year, and South Korea or Japan are also part of the regular program. Over the years, however, Mexico, the United Arab Emirates, Australia or France could also enjoy a visit!
This year (2022) the KCON took place in Japan, South Korea, Saudi Arabia and from August to September even 10 times in the United States!
Maybe it will come near you one day? European fans can also hope, after all, the KCON was already once in France.
Music Bank World Tour
As a K-Pop fan, you probably know the music show "Music Bank", where K-Pop idols perform their new song every week.
The music show has been visiting countries around the world since 2011 as part of the Music Bank World Tour. Each year, the Music Bank Festival is held in a different country, giving fans there the opportunity to see several Korean stars perform live on stage. Often, the festival is even held in two countries a year!
So far, the Music Bank World Tour has visited Japan, France, China, Chile, Brazil, Mexico, and in 2018, Germany, among others.
Since 2017, in addition to the performing artists, there are always presenters who guide the audience through the evening. So far, these have also been well-known stars such as actor Park Bo Gum, Irene from Red Velvet, Jeongyeon and Dahyun (Twice), Jeon Somi and this year (2022) Rowoon from SF9.
KPOP.Flex
KPOP.Flex Festival was held in Frankfurt, Germany for the first time on May 14 & 15, 2022. It made headlines months in advance for being Europe's first major K-Pop festival! All 44,000 tickets were sold out in less than seven weeks!
The extremely high demand led to the spontaneous addition of a second festival day, May 15. In the end, over 65,000 tickets were sold for both days to K-Pop fans from 84 countries. If that's not a clear message that European fans want more K-Pop events, what is?
So the joy was great when KPOP.Flex announced long before the event that the festival will become an annual event. On May 15, ticket sales already started for the next KPOP.Flex festival over a year later!
The festival will once again take place in Frankfurt, Germany on June 17 & 18, 2023, and will also visit London for three days - September 22-24, 2023! So, thanks to the festival, European fans can hopefully enjoy a K-Pop event near them several times a year from now on.
It's not yet known which stars will be performing in 2023, but with groups like IVE, Enhypen and NCT represented in May, surely no one will be disappointed!
K-Pop World Festival
This festival is more of an annual talent competition, which has been organized by the South Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs since 2011. It aims to bring together Korean culture and the culture of the participants. Every year, preliminary rounds are held in different countries where teams can prove themselves in the categories of singing and dancing. The best participants are invited to South Korea to compete in the finals.
This year (2022), for example, 46 teams (130 participants) competed in Berlin, Germany in front of 300 spectators. Spectators were also able to try out the traditional Korean costume "Hanbok" and traditional Korean musical instruments.
The finals are held every year in the city of Changwon in South Korea.
As you can see, most of these festivals have been taking place for more than 10 years! Have you heard about these festivals or were you even there? Or is there another festival we should definitely report about? Let us know!
