Red Velvet 'Power Up' Image Teaser

As soon as one of our favorite bands announces a comeback, we count down the days and can't wait to watch the music video! When the big day finally arrives, we watch the music video several times to enjoy it. But of course, we want more. And that's what we're going to get!

After all, the release of a new album is just the beginning! In the following weeks, a whole bunch of videos will be released that revolve around the new songs, and the Idols will also be promoting the new album on various entertainment shows. So you'll almost always find something new to keep yourself busy with.

To make sure you as a new fan don't miss anything, we'll tell you what videos, specials and guest appearances to look out for!

Music Show Stage

Even if you're a new fan, you're probably familiar with music shows like Inkigayo, Music Bank and the like, where all sorts of K-Pop stars perform every week. Exactly how often a band or solo artist performs their new song there varies slightly, but usually they perform almost every day for two to three weeks. This means that there are 10 or even more different Music Show Stages of the new song!

At each stage the idols wear new outfits, have different hairstyles, the stage is decorated differently and the video is filmed differently. So it's worth watching every single one of them!

Dance Practice Video

In these videos we see the Idols not in glamorous stage outfits, but leggings and sneakers. The videos are also filmed in the usual training rooms and give us a glimpse of what the Idols' dance rehearsals look like. Also, compared to music show stages, we usually see the whole group for the whole video, with no close-ups of individual members.

This also means that we see the entire choreography of the song even better than in the performances. That's why many fans use these very videos to learn the choreography!

For holidays like Christmas or Chuseok (big Korean holiday in autumn), bands often also release special dance practice videoswhere they are dressed up or wearing traditional Korean clothes, for example.

Performance Video

Performance videos are like stage performances, except they are pre-recorded and not live. The idols wear fancy outfits and dance to their new song. There are no screaming fans in the background because the videos are usually recorded in a studio, which is suitably decorated. Since it's not a live performance, the quality is often much better.

Both dance practice videos and performance videos are usually filmed by the artist's agency itself and uploaded to the official Youtube channel.

Performance videos or live performances are often also called "special clip". So you can also search for new videos using that term.

Relay dance, Band LIVE Concert & Be Original

These are all projects from different channels, especially Mnet, where idols can present their songs again in a different way.

Be Original is like a performance clip. But the Be Original clips are known for being filmed in an empty white studio, where the only decorations are different colors of lights. As a result, they look very clean and crisp, putting a renewed focus on the performance. They also have a resolution of 4K!

In Relay Dance, members of bands don't dance together to the song, but one after the other. After each line or part, it's the next person's turn. Solo artists do the Relay Dance with their backup dancers.

Band LIVE Concert is all about singing instead of dancing. As the name suggests, the stars sing their new songs here with a live band. This often results in a somewhat rockier version.

These formats have all existed for a few years now and are regularly filmed by popular K-Pop artists. Of course it happens over the years that a format is discontinued or a new one is added. We hope that these will continue for a long time!

Fan-Cam

Fan Cams used to be the name for recordings of fans, which show the performances from a different perspective and often focus on a very specific member. Now, many music shows and Be Original release their own fan cams.

For example, a Nayeon (Twice) fancam shows Nayeon for the entire performance. Normally, during performances, the camera focuses on the whole group or the one who is singing/dancing in the center. However, thanks to this fancam, we can see Nayeon even when she is dancing in the background and catch moments that we would otherwise miss.

Depending on the format, the fan cams are also called Close-up Cam or Unfiltered Cam .

All these performances and special clips are perfect if you can't get enough of a song, but don't want to see the same video over and over again. It often even makes us like a song even more because we still notice little things and details in many of these videos that we didn't notice before.

Usually all these videos revolve around the title song, but sometimes there are individual appearances of a B-side from the album. This is especially the case with particularly popular and successful artists.

Behind-the Scenes

If you ever want to see something other than a performance, there are also often plenty of behind-the-scenes (BTS) videos. Sometimes they are published by the format itself where the artists perform and sometimes by the respective agency. So how many such videos there are is different for each artist. We can look behind the scenes and watch the artists prepare for the performances or joke with their band members.

Cover Videos

Looking for a change of pace? Then we suggest you check out some of the countless cover videos you can watch on YouTube. There are many talented fans out there who learn the dances from new songs to record and upload later. They often join with others, form groups and perform together. They put on matching outfits and use all the props that the idols use. These are, for example, chairs, fans or scarves.

We especially like to watch K-Pop in Public cover videos. The dancers perform in public; in parks, on streets or even in a shopping mall. So the setting is different in each video and you can see curious passersby stopping to watch the performance. These videos come from all over the world, as fans from Asia, Europe, America or Australia all share the same passion!

Variety Shows

Alternatively, there are also a lot of variety shows with idols that you can watch. They are aired weekly and have different idols as guests every week:

  • Knowing Bros/ Men on a Mission
  • Weekly Idol
  • After School Club

In these shows, the respective guest talks about their new album and plays various fun games with the hosts. Each show is known for different games!

In addition, there are other shows that are not 100% about the Idol guests like Weekly Idol and co, but often have Idols as guests.

  • Running Man
  • Amazing Saturday
  • The King of Mask Singer

In our article about the best Variety shows from South Korea, we introduce them all to you in a bit more detail!

In between, many stars also film their own reality shows, so even if there's no comeback coming up right now, you can hope for something new! Have you seen all these videos of your favorite song or star, or are you going to catch up now?
