BIOGRAPHY

Bang Chan (방찬 bangchan) was born on October 3, 1997 in Seoul, South Korea, but immigrated to Sydney, Australia at a young age. He lived there with his parents, his younger sister Hannah Bahng and his younger brother Lucas Bahng. Through his father, who was a coach for swimmers in the Special Olympics, he discovered his passion for swimming at an early age. His great role model was his own father and when he was still in elementary school at the age of 8, he broke the record in the 50-meter free swimming. It wasn't just swimming that suited him; He also took ballet and modern dance lessons at the Newton High School of Performing Arts in Sydney. His interest and talent in the artistic field became apparent early on.

In 2010, he took part in a casting held by JYP Entertainment in Australia to get a little closer to his dream of becoming an idol. He was accepted as a trainee at JYPE and then moved back to his native South Korea on April 11, 2011 at the age of 13. From then on, he went to Cheongdam High School and graduated from there alongside his rigorous training at JYPE. During his time as a trainee, everyone called him by his English name "Chris". For 7 years, he watched as many of his friends, such as BamBam (GOT7), Yugyeom ( GOT7 ), Young K ( DAY6 ), Sana ( Twice ) and Jimin (15&), debuted without him, but he didn't give up.

At the end of 2016, Bang Chan founded the hip-hop unit 3RACHA with the other two trainees Han Jisung (“J.One”) and Seo Changbin (“SPEARB”). He himself used the stage name “CB97”. Within this unit, the guys were able to show a completely different side of themselves. Over the course of 2017, they released self-written and self-produced songs together on Soundcloud. Later, they even worked with big names like SKI-HI and were the feature of his song JUST BREATHE (2022) .

On October 11, 2017, JYPE announced the survival show “Stray Kids”. Something unprecedented happened: In the show, Bang Chan was introduced as the producer, singer, rapper and dancer and leader of the “Male Group Project”. The “Male Project Team” was special from the start because, unlike most other K-pop groups, it was not formed by the agency. Instead, Bang Chan himself had put together the team of nine members in total. The members were: Bang Chan Lee Know , Han , Changbin , Felix , Hyunjin , Seungmin , IN and Woojin.

In the last episode of the Survival Show on December 19, 2017, it was announced that this very group that he put together would also make its debut. However, in October 2019, Woojin left the group for unknown reasons.

CAREER HIGHLIGHTS

In his career as leader of the up-and-coming and charismatic group “Stray Kids”, Bang Chan and his members achieved several milestones and surpassed themselves with every comeback. Since the list of their successes is very long, we have recorded some of the most important milestones for you here:

• As of August 2021, her album Noeasy has sold over 1,127,800 copies. This was the first time that Stray Kids and a group from the JYPE label broke the million mark.
• In March 2022, her album ODDINARY reached number 1 on the Billboard 200 charts for the first time.
• In August 2022, Stray Kids became the third Korean band to reach 10 million subscribers on YouTube, after BTS and BIGBANG.
• In October 2022, Stray Kids reached number 1 on the Billboard 200 charts for the second time in a row with MAXIDENT.
• In June 2023, Stray Kids reached number 1 on the Billboard 200 charts for the third time in a row with the album 5-STAR. They also broke the record for the most pre-ordered album in K-pop history at the time of its release.
• In November 2023, Stray Kids reached number 1 on the Billboard 200 for the fourth time in a row with their album ROCK-STAR. "LALALALA" also became their first entry on the Billboard Hot 100 charts at number 90.

DISCOGRAPHY

The leader Bang Chan has not yet aimed for a real solo career. However, in 2020 he released two solo songs on the album SKZ Replay, which he composed and produced himself. Most recently, he released the solo song “Eternity” on the official YouTube account of “Stray Kids” in which he sings about the relationship between him and his dog Berry.

SONGWRITING CREDITS

In November 2023, Bang Chan was officially registered with KOMCA (The Korea Music Copyright Association) at number 6 with 180 songs registered to his name.

He achieved this position because he writes and produces almost all of Stray Kids' songs himself, together with Han and Changbin , in the name of the unit 3RACHA. This makes Stray Kids one of the few K-pop groups that produce their own songs. Bang Chan also regularly produces solo songs for his members, in which he also participates, which are then published on YouTube without being included on an official album.

In addition to his appearances in “Stray Kids” own music videos, leader Bang Chan was also seen in guest roles in music videos by friendly groups. From 2019 to 2023, Bang Chan was live on VLIVE every Sunday and later on YouTube. There he chatted with the audience and presented songs that he was currently listening to or that fans suggested to him. Every now and then he showed small excerpts from unreleased songs and invited guests, such as his members or members of other groups with whom he got along well. This format has been paused indefinitely. He also regularly uploads vlogs from his vacation or everyday life to YouTube.

Bang Chan is not the only musical one in the family. His sister Hannah Bahng debuted on July 14th, 2023 with her single 'perfect blues' under Bahng Entertainment. She is also active as a content creator on YouTube and Instagram.

Throughout his career, Bang Chan has built up many close friendships with other idols. For example, in "Channie's Room Episode 113" he tells an anecdote about how he met Vernon from SEVENTEEN.
