Monsta X is finally coming back with a new album in January! It will be the first comeback since the six members renewed their contracts in August. It is also the first album since “Shape of Love”, which was already released in April of this year.
The new album, titled “Reason”, will be released on January 10 and can be pre-ordered from our shop starting today!
12th Mini Album REASON
Monsta X revealed the details of 10 different versions today! There are four photobook versions, four Jewel versions, one KiT version and one Cassette Tape version. As you can see, there's a big selection. We've summarized all the contents here for you so you can get an overview:
Let's start with the photobook versions:
All four consist of a 72-page photobook protected by a sleeve cover. In addition, there is a 16-page lyric book, one of five possible photocards, one of 10 possible unit photocards and, of course, the CD.#
Variety is guaranteed with these four photobook versions, because apart from the unit photocards, all the contents are designed differently depending on the version. Even the photocards have different motifs!
As is often the case with Monsta X, it's worth pre-ordering the albums this time too. That way, you'll also get one of five possible postcards, one of five 4-cut photos and a folded poster!
On Twitter, there is a mysterious mood teaser for each of the four versions.
If you'd like a bit more of your bias, the Jewel versions might be the right choice for you:
There are five different variants, one per member of Monsta X. Since Shownu is still in the military, only five members are of course involved in this album, too.
Each version includes a CD, a square 16-page photobook, one of five possible photocards and one of five folded mini posters. The photobook is different in every version, but the extras are the same.
Alternatively, there are also the KiT and the Cassette Tape versions!
The KiT version consists of a small box that mainly contains an AiR-KiT. You can connect it to your phone to get access to digital content. This naturally includes the songs of the album, but often also exclusive photos and videos. To be able to use the AiR-KiT, you need the matching app: “KiT Player”.
In addition, you'll find a Title & Credit card, a postcard and 24 photocards in the box! These are slightly larger than the usual photocards. But the usual one isn't missing either, because on top of the 24-piece photocard set, every buyer also gets one of five possible member photocards.
The Cassette Tape version contains, as the name suggests, a cassette. There is also a small 10-page booklet and one of five possible photocards. This is the first time Monsta X has released an album on cassette! Do you still have a cassette player?
Monsta X already uploaded a schedule on December 15:
On the schedule we can read which teasers await us until the release of the album. It starts tomorrow with the reveal of the tracklist, and several concept photos and image teasers as well as a concept film will be released later this year.
At the beginning of January, a few more concept photos and two music video teasers will follow, among other things. We can't wait to see the first photos of Hyungwon, I.M and the others!
REASON is the third and last album without Shownu!
The leader of Monsta X began his military service in July 2021, which is mandatory for all men in South Korea. Since then, the boy group has released two albums without him: “No Limit” in November 2021 and “Shape of Love” in April 2022.
Soon, however, Monsta X will finally be complete again, because the singer is expected to finish his service in April 2023. So we can assume that REASON will be the last album without him! Are you already looking forward to Shownu’s return?
After Shownu went into the military, the members of Monsta X focused more on solo activities:
Minhyuk and Hyungwon were mainly seen on TV shows, such as “Inssa Oppa” or “Vogue Ship Show”. Hyungwon is also working on the drama “President Idol Mart”, which is set to air in 2023. Joohoney is also working on his acting career and will be seen in the Netflix film “K-Pop: Lost in America” in 2023!
I.M was part of a documentary called “Welcome To My Baverse” in which he can share his thoughts as a musician and idol, and he also released a song called “Loop” for it.
Kihyun has started a solo career and presented two solo albums this year alone: “Voyager” in March and "Youth" in October!
Because the members have focused more on their solo careers, they only released one album together this year. Until now, there had always been at least two albums per year! In 2015 and 2016 there were 2, from 2016 to 2020 there were 3 each year, and in 2021 there were even 4!
We're curious whether there will be more again next year. Of course, we also hope for more solo albums!
