Back on November 25, rumors emerged that Jinyoung of GOT7 was about to start his military service. Some even talked about mid-March. But the singer's agency announced on the same day that no date had been set yet. Instead, Jinyoung announced his solo debut shortly afterwards! The mini album “Chapter 0: With” was released on January 18, 2023.
Now there is news again, and this time it really is about his military service:
Jinyoung will start his military training on May 8 and then serve as an active-duty soldier!
Since the singer and actor is now 28 years old, it was clear that we would have to say goodbye to him very soon. Idols can only postpone their service until they are 30 at the latest. In general, men in South Korea have to enlist by the age of 28 at the latest.
Jinyoung will be gone for at least 18 months. We wish him all the best and are already looking forward to his return!
Jinyoung is the second member of GOT7 to go into the military:
Just in February, Jay B said his goodbyes and has been working in public service ever since. That means he will be gone for 21 months. People are mainly assigned to public service when they can't serve actively because of illnesses or chronic injuries. In return, public service is longer.
The younger bandmates Youngjae and Yugyeom still have two to three years until they have to go into the military. So fans won't have to do without all the members of GOT7. In fact, the other three - Bambam, Jackson and Mark - don't have to go at all because they are not Korean citizens. In China there is no military service at all, and in Thailand only a certain number of men per region have to serve. Bambam is already exempt because enough men from his region volunteered in his year.
