Where does all the hype around the new girl group come from?
For one thing, it is produced by HYBE, the agency that also has the world-famous boy group BTS under contract. As soon as it became known that HYBE was planning its first girl group, the excitement was huge, because especially because of BTS, many fans have high expectations of the upcoming group.
It only got really exciting when the first rumors about the members came up.
We are talking about Miyawaki Sakura and Kim Chaewon. Fans around the world know the two as members of the extremely successful project group IZ*ONE, which disbanded in April 2021. Before that, Sakura had even been a member of the popular Japanese girl group AKB48 for many years.
And that's not all; Huh Yunjin was rumored to be another member, who, like Sakura and Chaewon, appeared on Produce 48 - the survival show from which IZ*ONE emerged - but was eliminated in the semi-finals. By then she had already built up a large fan base that had been eagerly waiting for news from the singer.
Many more weeks passed after the rumors first came up before HYBE's founder Bang Si Hyuk finally brought clarity. On March 14, he finally announced that Sakura and Chaewon had indeed signed a contract with the agency and would soon debut in the new girl group.
To celebrate this announcement, he also posted a photo of himself with the two idols.
On March 27, the first pictures were uploaded to the girl group's new Instagram account. They show the logo and the name of the group: “LE SSERAFIM” If the letters are rearranged, they form the phrase “IM FEARLESS”, which is also part of the logo. The phrase stands for the strength and courage of the members.
Since April 3, these members have been introduced on Instagram with photos and on YouTube with short videos. Sakura was the first. New faces followed. Kim Garam and the youngest, Hong Eunchae, who studied dance. Next, Chaewon was introduced as the leader of LE SSERAFIM! After that, the Japanese-Dutch Kazuha was introduced, who is probably rather unknown to most K-pop fans. In fact, though, she has been active as a professional ballerina for many years! Last was Huh Yunjin, so once again a familiar face.
These six debut on May 3 with their first album “Fearless”!
There will be two versions, each containing a 112-page photo book, a CD, a sticker, a transfer paper, a postcard and one of 12 photocards. Everything comes together in a box that, like the photo book and the CD, is individually designed depending on the version.
