The four-member girl group FIFTY FIFTY is only a few months old, but is already making headlines on a regular basis! Why is that?
FIFTY FIFTY debuted on November 18, 2022 with the mini album “The Fifty” including the title track “Higher”. The album only made it onto the Circle Album Chart a month after its release, but was positively received by critics. The group themselves probably didn't expect any special success right away either, as they come from a small label called “Attrakt” and are just at the beginning of their career.
On February 24, 2023, the girl group returned with their first single album “The Beginning: Cupid”, including the title track “Cupid”, which surprisingly turned into a viral hit!
If you've been on TikTok in recent weeks, you've probably heard the song several times already, because the English version - the so-called “Twin Version” - has been on constant repeat there for weeks. The success is also clearly visible on YouTube: the music video for the debut song Higher has 3.6 million views there after five months. The music video for Cupid has already been clicked 26 million times!
But Cupid is making its mark not only on social media, but also in the international charts. These are the milestones Fifty Fifty has reached there in recent weeks:
Billboard Hot 100
On March 27, “Cupid” entered the US Billboard Hot 100 chart at number 100. The girl group charted there for the first time, but this is about much more than just a personal record. FIFTY FIFTY is only the fifth K-pop girl group and the sixth K-pop group ever to reach the Hot 100! Before them, only Wonder Girls, Blackpink, Twice, NewJeans and BTS had managed it.
FIFTY FIFTY also broke NewJeans' record as the girl group to enter the Hot 100 the fastest after their debut:
NewJeans had only set that record on January 17, when they landed on the Hot 100 for the first time with “Ditto”. At that point NewJeans was about five and a half months old. FIFTY FIFTY was only four months and a few days old on March 27 and thus beat NewJeans by a month.
Since then, Cupid has climbed higher every week and most recently (April 19) reached number 60! This makes FIFTY FIFTY only the third K-pop group after BTS and Blackpink to break into the top 60. Beyond that, after BTS, Blackpink and NewJeans, they are only the fourth group to stay on the chart for three weeks or longer!
UK Official Singles Chart
FIFTY FIFTY also achieved several successes on the UK Official Singles Chart. On March 31, “Cupid” entered the chart at number 96, something no other K-pop girl group has managed so soon after their debut. In addition, only three other K-pop girl groups had made it onto the chart before: Blackpink, Twice and NewJeans.
By now, Cupid has reached number 34 on the chart. FIFTY FIFTY is now officially only the second K-pop girl group after Blackpink to stay on the chart for three weeks.
More chart successes:
Cupid has climbed to number 9 on Billboard’s Global Excl. U.S. chart. This makes FIFTY FIFTY one of only seven K-pop groups to score a top 10 hit on the chart. The other groups are Big Bang, New Jeans, IVE, Twice, Blackpink and of course BTS.
In addition, FIFTY FIFTY has by now reached number 5 on Billboard's World Digital Song Sales chart and number 13 on the Global 200 chart.
FIFTY FIFTY has surprisingly won the hearts of fans around the world and attracted international attention! The girl group has a lot of potential, which they will hopefully be able to tap into further in the future. We're curious whether FIFTY FIFTY will climb even higher in the charts over the next few weeks and can't wait to see more of Saena, Aran, Keena and Sio!
By the way, the singers already announced their official fandom name at the end of February: HUNNIES
On the one hand, the name is a variation of “Hundred”. The hundred is made up half of the ‘50’ from the members and half of the fans. But HUNNIES also stands for “Honey”, the affectionate nickname.
