The new SM project group "Girls On Top" is ready!

Die neue SM-Projektgruppe "Girls On Top" steht bereit!

Not even a week before the end of the year, SM Entertainment is surprising K-Pop fans worldwide with exciting news: In 2022, the project group “Girls On Top” will debut with members from all of SM's girl groups!

SM Entertainment is currently very busy making their artists' fans happy. Today the winter album “SMCU Express” is being released, featuring all of the agency's idols, and on January 1 a free online concert will be streamed. That's already exciting enough, because the last collective winter album from SM was 10 years ago!

But that wasn't all; yesterday SM Entertainment announced on Instagram and on a new Twitter account that a new project group called “Girls On Top” will debut in 2022!

Girls On Top

Two years ago, Taemin from SHINee, Baekhyun and Kai from EXO, Taeyong and Mark from NCT 127, as well as Ten and Lucas from WayV debuted in the project group “SuperM”. This brought together almost all of SM Entertainment's boy groups and created something new!

Fans of SM's girl groups have surely wondered time and again whether there would also be a female project group of this kind, especially after the great success of SuperM. Since yesterday we no longer have to ask ourselves that question, and can look forward to the debut of “Girls On Top”!

Like SuperM, the new girl group will consist of seven members: BoA, Taeyeon and Hyoyeon of Girls Generation, Seulgi and Wendy of Red Velvet, and Winter and Karina of Aespa.

So four different generations are coming together: BoA debuted in 2000, Girls Generation in 2007, Red Velvet in 2014 and Aespa only in 2020. That means there are roughly seven years between each group. BoA and Aespa are even 20 years apart! In fact, Aespa's Karina was born in the same year BoA released her first album!

The age difference is correspondingly large. BoA is 15 years older than the youngest, Aespa's Winter, who was born in 2001. The many years in between are filled by the other members.

We're curious about the harmony these seven singers can create together!

We'll already get a first taste on January 1, because it was announced on social media that the group will do a special stage on that day. Most likely at the SMTown online concert, which will take place on the same day.

On January 3 the new song will then be released!

Do you already have a bias in the new girl group?

Bonus

In June 2005, BoA released an album titled “Girls On Top”. We don't know whether there is a connection to the project group's name. If not, it would be a cool coincidence, right?
