“NCT is a group with infinite members.” The boy group debuted in April 2016 with this concept. Including the newest unit DOJAEJUNG, there are currently five units and 20 members in total. But since the beginning of the year, an end has been in sight! In February, SM Entertainment announced that the new group NCT Tokyo, which is set to debut in 2023, will be the last one.
And yesterday it was finally announced which seven members will debut in this last unit:
Sion, Yushi, Riku, Jungmin, Daeyoung, Ryo, Sakuya
These seven were announced yesterday as the winners of the survival show “NCT Universe: LASTART”. The first episode aired on July 27.
NCT Universe: LASTART
The survival show attracted a lot of attention even beforehand. LASTART aimed to recruit new members for the NCT family. It gave fans an insight into the intense selection process, in which the candidates were evaluated in various areas such as singing, dancing and charisma.
Even before the show, two members of NCT Tokyo were already set: Sion and Yushi. At the end of June, SM Entertainment introduced them as the newest members of the trainee team SMROOKIES and at the same time confirmed that they will debut in NCT. The two also appeared in LASTART, but did not have to fight for their place in the new unit like the others.
Besides Sion and Yushi, 11 more trainees appeared in the show. NCT Tokyo was originally supposed to have six members, but in the finale the jury surprisingly decided that the unit will consist of seven members. So five winners were announced, who will soon debut together with Sion and Yushi.
The reveal of the final members has sparked both excitement and discussion in the K-Pop community. Some fans are thrilled about the new lineup and are looking forward to future activities, while others are concerned about the age of the new members. Above all, 16-year-old Ryo and 15-year-old Sakuya are drawing attention. What do you think of the final lineup?
Whether the new unit will really be called NCT Tokyo is unclear. At the end of the show, the jury no longer spoke of “NCT Tokyo”, but of “NCT NEW TEAM”.
The unit is expected to take part in the upcoming “NCT Nation: To The World” concerts this month. So fans won't have to wait long to see the new members on stage together with their experienced colleagues!
So NCT now has a total of 27 members and is therefore still the biggest K-Pop group in the world!
