"NCT is a group with an infinite number of members." With this concept, the boy group debuted in April 2016. Together with the newest unit DOJAEJUNG, there are currently a total of five units and 20 members. But since the beginning of the year, there is an end in sight! SM Entertainment announced in February that the new group NCT Tokyo, set to debut in 2023, will be the last.
And yesterday, it was finally announced which seven members will debut in this final unit:
Sion, Yushi, Riku, Jungmin, Daeyoung, Ryo, Sakuya
These seven were announced yesterday as the winners of the survival show "NCT Universe: LASTART". The first episode aired on July 27.
NCT Universe: LASTART
The survival show attracted a lot of attention in advance. LASTART aimed to recruit new members to the NCT family. It offered fans a glimpse into the intense selection process, where contestants were judged in various areas such as singing, dancing, and charisma.
Even before the show, two members of NCT Tokyo were already confirmed: Sion and Yushi. In late June, SM Entertainment had introduced them as the newest members of trainee team SMROOKIES, while also confirming that they would debut in NCT. The two also appeared in LASTART, but did not have to fight for their place in the new unit like the others.
In addition to Sion and Yushi, 11 other trainees appeared on the show. Originally, NCT Tokyo was supposed to have six members, but in the final, the jury surprisingly decided that the unit will consist of seven members instead. So five winners were announced, who will soon debut together with Sion and Yushi.
The reveal of the final members has sparked both excitement and discussion in the K-Pop community. Some fans are excited about the new lineup and look forward to future activities, while others are concerned about the age of the new members. In particular, 16-year-old Ryo and 15-year-old Sakuya are attracting attention. What do you think of the final lineup?
It is unclear if the new unit will really be called NCT Tokyo. At the end of the show, the judges were no longer talking about "NCT Tokyo" but "NCT NEW TEAM".
The Unit is scheduled to participate in the upcoming "NCT Nation: To The World" concerts this month. So fans won't have to wait much longer to see the new members join their experienced peers on stage!
So NCT now has a total of 27 members, continuing to be the largest K-Pop group in the world!
