Since the last comeback with the first studio album XOXO, 21 months have passed in which fans have waited in vain for new music. After a long period of uncertainty, Jeon Somi finally shed some light on things in early June. Her agency THEBLACKLABEL confirmed on June 2 that the singer will release a new album in August.
And today we have the first details:
The digital album GAME PLAN is released as early as August 7. And a week later, on August 14, a physical album will follow as well.
GAME PLAN is only Somi's second physical album, so fans undoubtedly can't wait to add it to their collection!
Unfortunately, fans have always had to wait for new music from the talented singer:
Since her solo debut with the digital singles “Birthday” and “Outta my Head” in June 2019, another single has been released once a year: "What You Waiting For" (July 2020) and "Dumb Dumb" (August 2021). After three years in which only digital singles were released, Somi finally presented a physical album called XOXO in October 2021. It contains four new songs and the four previously released singles.
Somi already caught attention in 2015 as a contestant on the survival show “Sixteen”, in which the now world-famous girl group Twice was formed.
A year later she won the first season of the popular survival show “Produce 101” and debuted as the center of the project group I.O.I. As planned from the start, it disbanded just under a year later. In the following years, Somi took part in further projects.
So she was already very well known before her solo debut, and it's no wonder that even her first single “Birthday” was able to chart successfully.
And it just kept going uphill: With “What You Waiting For”, Somi won her first music show trophy, and the music video for "Dumb Dumb" was viewed 10 million times in less than 24 hours! It's high time Somi added new hits to our playlist!
We're very happy that after all this time we're getting a whole album instead of just another single. On Twitter, THEBLACKLABEL revealed a new photo of Somi in addition to the release date of GAME PLAN. She appears dressed all in black, with blonde hair, looking over her shoulder into the camera.
More teasers will surely follow soon!
