Jennie, Rosé and Lisa have each released their own single album over the past four years. Naturally, fans have been hoping since Rosé and Lisa's solo debuts in 2021 that Jisoo will present an album of her own too. After all, she is the last of the four Blackpink members without an album of her own.
A few hours ago, YG Entertainment confirmed, to the great delight of fans, that Jisoo will make her solo debut in 2023!
We didn't expect this announcement right now, though, because the popular girl group has been on tour for several months. The world tour began in October 2022 and has already taken the singers through the United States, England and Europe. Apparently Jisoo still found time in between to work on her solo debut.
According to YG Entertainment, the idol has even already finished the photo shoots for the album and is currently busy recording! However, it hasn't been announced yet exactly when it will be released.
This year, too, Blackpink still have a series of concerts coming up, including in Thailand, Indonesia and Australia. The dates are scheduled until the end of June, so it will be another half year until the tour comes to an end. We're curious whether Jisoo will present her album during the tour or afterwards. We hope she also allows herself a break and doesn't put too much pressure on herself!
Jisoo has focused on her acting career in recent years:
Jisoo may be the last Blackpink member to release a solo album, but she hasn't been idle in the meantime. Since 2015 she has had small guest roles in K-dramas - The Producers (2015), Part-Time Idols (2017), Arthdal Chronicles (2019) - and in 2021 she landed the leading role in the drama “Snowdrop”! In it, Jisoo played a student who falls in love with another student who is more than he seems to be.
So we already had the chance to admire Jisoo alone on screen, without the other Blackpink members. But we are all the more excited that soon we'll also be able to watch a solo music video of her on repeat!
Will Jisoo be able to keep up with the success of Jennie, Rosé and Lisa?
The three Blackpink members celebrated great successes and broke records with their single albums! We're happy to give you a quick overview in case you don't remember everything anymore:
Jennie - Solo
Jennie was the first of the girl group to make her solo debut. Her single album “Solo” was released on November 12, 2018. Among other things, it topped the Korean Gaon Digital Chart, Billboard’s K-Pop Hot 100 Charts and Billboard’s World Digital Song Sales Chart. On top of that, it stayed on these charts for more than 25 weeks!
Solo also brought Jennie three music show wins and two awards:
- Song of the Year (Gaon Chart Music Awards 2019)
- Best Digital Song (Golden Disc Awards 2020)
So Solo was undoubtedly a successful start to Blackpink's solo careers!
Rosé - R
On March 12, 2021, more than two years after Jennie, the second member of Blackpink made her debut: Rosé released her single album “R”.
It not only reached high chart positions but also broke several records! With more than 400,000 pre-orders within four days, it became, for example, the best-selling single album by a Korean female solo artist ever at the time. In addition, according to the Hanteo Chart, over 280,000 copies were sold on the first day after release, also a new record for Korean female solo artists.
Beyond that, “R” was also very successful in China. The album topped the Digital Album Sales Chart of China's largest streaming service, QQ Music.
At the Asian Pop Music Awards 2021, “R” was honored as one of the Top 20 Albums of the Year, and the title track “On the Ground” won no fewer than six music show trophies.
As you can see, both Jennie and Rosé met the high expectations and perhaps even exceeded them. The same goes for Lisa!
Lisa - Lalisa
Blackpink’s maknae presented her first single album as well, about half a year after Rosé. “Lalisa” was released on September 10, 2021. With the album, Lalisa even surpassed Rosé's records!
“Lalisa” was pre-ordered more than 700,000 times within four days! In addition, the Hanteo Chart recorded more than 330,000 albums sold on the first day and more than 736,000 in the first week! With that, Lisa set a new record for the most pre-ordered single album by a Korean female solo artist, as well as for the best-selling single album by a female solo artist on the first day and for the best-selling single album by female artists in the first week.
Of course, Lisa also topped the charts, won a music show and two awards:
- Top 20 Albums of the Year (Asian Pop Music Awards 2021)
- Initial Chodong Record Award (Hanteo Music Awards 2021)
We're already curious which milestones Jisoo will reach! Like her group members, she will certainly live up to the fans' expectations and enrich the year 2023!
